The first panel continues to drive the story arc, but it can also refer to the new art style that I used on this strip. Instead of tracing over my scanned sketch with the Bezier tool in
Inkscape, I traced over my pencil sketch with an Extra Fine Sharpie on paper before scanning it in. It's a lot simpler process and gives the comic a more one-of-a-kind organic look while still maintaining an overall clean and simplistic look.
While pitching this strip to people, I had several complaints that it just didn't make sense where Mel was coming from with the lawsuit thing. While it's explained in the next strip, I'll just go ahead and tell you here. Mel is suing Hostess because he found a penis in his package of Twinkies.
*Disclaimer*
Of course, this has never happened to me or anyone that I know of. I don't mean to slander the Twinkie company in any way. I think they make a fine product and I enjoy it myself from time to time. I just thought it was funny.

So this is the beginning of my first story arc. Are you excited? I know I am... I mean, check it out, we've got props! On second thought, maybe I should have titled this one "Twinkies: The New Cancer Sticks?" It sounds like something that could be on your local news. If you hadn't noticed, Mel is kind of shaped like a Twinkie, even if real
Kiwi birds aren't.

This strip is based on a true story, actually. They did recently catch the largest
colossal squid ever in Antarctic waters around New Zealand. Though I don't like fish, I've always found gigantic sea creatures facinating. Often, I'll use Butterscotch's retort of "You're a *blank*", even when it's entirely inappropriate. Who knows, maybe the whole "You're a colossal squid" thing could be the next big catch phrase...
